Configurable automotive LDOs include functional safety features


Each has three pins that allow the output to be set to 0.8, 1.2, 1.5, 1.8, 2.5, 2.8, 3.3 or 5V “more accurately than with an external voltage divider using three external selection pins – the output is within ±2% of the nominal value,” according to the company. Output is up to 200mA and they are qualified to AEC-Q100.

Input voltage is 2.15V to 28V for direct connection to the battery and inputs are 40V tolerant to withstand load dump.

  • STM L99vr01VR01J LDOL99VR01J (right) has enable and reset pins, output discharge, under-voltage lock-out, thermal shutdown and short-circuit protection. Short-circuit current limit is programmable, and it provides thermal warning and output-overvoltage status indications. A programmable watchdog (external capacitor) oversees the host microcontroller.
    In a PowerSSO-12, it operates across -40 to 175°C junction temperature.
  • L99VR01S (below) is a subset, with has enable and reset pins, output discharge, under-voltage lock-out, thermal shutdown and short-circuit protection. Quiescent current when disabled is 1μA.
    In a standard SO-8 package, it operates from -40 to 150°C.

 

“The diagnostic features ease the design of functional-safety related applications, helping users achieve the required ISO 26262 ASIL value. Appropriate supporting documentation is available on request,” according to the company.

Potential applications include powering body modules, junction boxes, instrument clusters, sunroof controllers, keyless-entry controllers and sensors.
